Medical Waste Bag

Medical Waste Bags. What is Medical Waste? Color Classification of Medical Waste Bags
Medical waste bags are categorized into three groups: pathological waste, sharp-cutting waste, and infected waste. These are types of waste harmful to human and environmental health. To properly collect and dispose of these wastes, three different types of medical waste bags are used in healthcare facilities. These bags help identify the type of waste and make it easier to sort and dispose of them. Medical waste can generally include anything used in healthcare settings. However, for clarity, medical waste types include needles, gloves, surgical gowns, scalpels, laboratory slides and covers, and quarantine waste. Each type of medical waste requires separate disposal to prevent harm to both human health and the environment.

Medical wastes are classified based on criteria such as whether they are solid or liquid, sharp-cutting, or infectious. Accordingly, each type of waste is placed in a specific medical waste bag. For example, serums and medications and their containers are collected in blue medical waste bags; household waste is collected in black medical waste bags; and needles, tissue samples, sharp-cutting laboratory tools, feces, blood samples, and cadaver tissues are collected in red medical waste bags.
